Broward County Robbery Leaves Huber Vasquez-Lopez Injured, Facing 12 Charges

Huber Vasquez-Lopez was in Broward County bond court on Sunday, visibly injured with cuts and bruises, facing 12 charges. Among them were six violations related to a pending case.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the 22-year-old sustained injuries, including a cut above his right eyebrow needing stitches, during a robbery where he was attacked by someone wielding a knife. The incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. on Saturday near Northeast Second Avenue and 49 Street in Deerfield Beach.

Police noted that Vasquez-Lopez, while initially cooperative, later stopped helping with the investigation. This led detectives to discover outstanding felony warrants against him. He was taken from the hospital to jail on Sunday.

The warrants stemmed from a DUI hit-and-run incident in Margate earlier in January, where a woman was injured and required hospital treatment.

In that incident, Vasquez-Lopez reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .313 when he crashed into the back of another vehicle. He was subsequently found by police after crashing his own vehicle.

Vasquez-Lopez allegedly told officers he was innocent and trying to get home to his family, but witnesses contradicted his account.

Court records show that Circuit Judge Thomas J. Coleman had issued warrants for Vasquez-Lopez’s arrest multiple times related to the DUI case. Despite facing serious charges including leaving the scene of an accident with injury and multiple DUI offenses,

Vasquez-Lopez was denied bond and remained in custody at the North Broward Bureau in Pompano Beach, while his attacker in the recent robbery remained at large.
